A Thought for Experienced IT Professionals: A New Mindset for Growth

By

A corporate job can be like slow poison, stifling your bigger dreams and ambitions.

If you’re depending for the job only, you can’t think outside the box.

Once you’ve gained experience in your field, you begin to feel confident in your skills and expertise. At this point, it’s important to ask yourself: Are you truly growing in your career, or are you simply helping the company grow?

At this stage in your career, it’s important to take a step back and evaluate the bigger picture.

In my opinion, it’s time to promote yourself, not just your company.

Understanding the Full Lifecycle:
In most service-based companies, multiple departments collaborate on a single project. From sales to delivery, everyone is part of the team, and together, we contribute to the success of the project. But, here’s the key point: all of these people are also your colleagues, not just employees of the company you work for.

To truly grow, you need to look at the entire process from a holistic perspective:

  • Take a moment to look at the whole process, from getting clients to completing the project. Understand how each team, role, and person contributes to the overall work.
  • Think About Your Role: Consider how you can improve your contribution, not just for the company but also for your personal growth.
  • Build a Network: Try creating a separate group of professionals with similar interests and work directly with clients. This could help you move from depending on a company to running your own business.
  • Freelancing or Consulting: Use the skills and knowledge you have at your current job to start freelancing or consulting for yourself. Leverage your experience and connections to get projects directly from clients.
  • Unlock Personal Growth: Moving from working for a company to working for yourself can lead to significant personal growth. It’s about taking control of your career and aligning your skills with your personal goals. This journey is about more than just a paycheck—it’s about gaining the freedom to shape your future.

Of course, this transition depends on your capabilities, expertise, and willingness to take that leap. But remember, the road to growth is not always linear, and it often requires stepping outside your comfort zone.

Conclusion: A New Mindset for Growth

The choice is yours: will you continue to grow within the framework set by others, or will you build your own path and create something bigger for yourself? The decision could be the key to unlocking a new phase of your career.
